Court Discharges Accused in State v. Angad Singh Bedi & Ors. Over Vague and Inconsistent Allegations

In State v. Angad Singh Bedi & Ors., the Ld. Mahila Court, Tis Hazari, discharged all accused of charges under Sections 498A, 406, 377, 354, 354A, 506, and 34 IPC, holding that the complainant’s allegations of cruelty, dowry demands, sexual assault, unnatural offence and misappropriation of stridhan were vague, inconsistent, and unsupported by evidence such as medical records or specific details. The Court observed that sweeping and omnibus allegations had been made to implicate seven family members, including distant relatives, without attributing distinct roles, amounting to misuse of criminal provisions for matrimonial disputes. Concluding that no prima facie case was made out, the Court discharged all accused, noting that the complaint appeared actuated by malice rather than genuine grievance.
